HAPPY SUNDAY
Thank you for joining us – grab a cuppa and let’s chill together!
There are 24 hours in a day. Sometimes we just wish there could be more hours right? 24 hours just does not seem like enough, but it is mundane to complain. We are always complaining - if it was 36 hours in a day it would still be an issue and we would still tell our teachers, “the dog ate my homework”. But let us face reality - there is nothing we can do, we cannot just extend the hours in a day beyond that, we cannot conflict with this rule created by Hipparchus between 147 and 127 B.C. Do not waste your time protesting this - we are all the way in 2021, the government will just roll their eyes as this rule is something that has been followed by everyone alive in this world. However, what we can change is how we spend and allocate our time within those 24 hours.
What is the most important thing?
The task due the next day?
NO! - well partially yes but it is something far beyond that. We have roles in society - some that are bestowed on us upon birth and some we choose to take up. These roles are the most important thing. We always say, “there is never really enough time to do everything”, but to fulfill these roles even with the smallest actions can make all the difference.
For example, you are a student who attends college - your role as a student and your responsibilities include: completing assignments and putting in your best efforts towards exams; not only are you a student but you are also a child to someone, maybe a sibling to someone and a friend to someone - there are responsibilities that come along with that: taking care of those relationships by being there. If you choose to start a business, intern at a company or volunteer for a community there are responsibilities there too. Do not forget the most important: we are all human - we need to take care of our physical and mental health in order to function. This is the top of the pyramid - if we do not take care of ourselves we will not be able to fulfill all those other responsibilities. The responsibility of being a student, child, sibling, friend, intern, entrepreneur, volunteer, and other roles you have are all dependent on YOU.
This is probably what most of our days consist of:
Majority of us are more dedicated to fulfilling our responsibilities as a student, that we neglect our relationships and sometimes even ourselves! The length of a textbook may be extreme, and we are not saying go out with your friends every day partying but it does not take an hour to just send a “Hey, how are you?” text message to a friend, or to pop your head into the kitchen to greet your family in the morning.
Life is like a chair.
There are 4 legs needed to support a chair. There are 4 legs in our life that we need to fulfill in order to balance:
Physical health - this is here to fulfill our responsibility as humans, especially with something like COVID lurking around. Wear a mask, eat well, sleep well and exercise when you can - if you do not have time to do a Chloe Ting workout from YouTube, just a simple walk will do - do not look for excuses here!
Academic - this is here to fulfill our responsibility as a student or an intern. Learn how to ace your online classes with us HERE! It is about putting in those hours so you can achieve your study goals.
Spiritual - this is here to fulfill our responsibility as a human. Take care of your mental health whether that is by meditating or connecting with God.
Social - this is here to fulfill our responsibility as a child/friend/sibling/community volunteer/entrepreneur. If time is against you - ditch planning an outing, save that for the holidays but communication is key - a simple conversation goes a long way.
WHEN WE FIND A WAY TO BALANCE - LIFE BECOMES EASIER - AND WE STOP SAYING, “THERE NEVER REALLY IS TIME FOR EVERYTHING”
THERE IS TIME FOR EVERYTHING IF IT IS IMPORTANT TO YOU.
